Making the most of your marketing spend in a contracting economy
During this protracted period of economic contraction, it may be hard to imagine producing a typical "large scale" event for your clients or your employees. Companies who last year may have produced several large national or regional events are looking at shrinking budgets and executive attention focused on the bottom line. The economic forecast for 2009 is weak, with limited advertising and sales revenues impacting companies, large and small, around the world.
Marketing and Special Event managers are faced with a complex dilemma, "do more with less." To be successful, you need to find a partner who understands your requirements, and can work within your budget.
Following are our recommendations:
- Consider several smaller, regional events in place of a single large event. This can reduce travel costs for the attendees, although it may increase travel time for the presenter(s).
- Consider regional satellite meetings, where a presenter in one location is able to present to audiences in multiple locations. Travel costs for attendees and presenters is reduced.
- Make "smart" choices in technology. Many production companies will try to offer the newest "cool" technology. Your event may be delivered just as well with a less expensive solution. Get several bids, and challenge each of your bidders to an open dialogue about options.
